Amy Fern - Principal & Managing Director

Amy Fern - Principal & Managing Director

Amy has always had a love and passion for dance from a very young age. After years of  ‘dancing around the living room’, her Grandmother insisted that her Mum take her to her first dance class and the rest is history!

She attended The Southern Minstrels Stage School from the age of 6 and quickly developed a passion for all dance genres – learning Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Musical Theatre. She also developed a love of singing and started regularly singing solo performances at just the age of 7.

She performed in many theatres across the south and competed regularly in competitions such as The British Arts Awards. From 2002-2004 she also performed in regular Sunday Night Live Variety Shows at Her Majesty’s Theatre and The Palace Theatre in London’s West End.

In 2005 she started singing and performing professionally and also began teaching dance and Musical Theatre in local schools and theatre groups alongside running her own event management company- Blue Butterfly Events.

Blue Butterfly Events organised many events with professional football clubs and in particular on behalf of charities. Her favourite aspect was always the Entertainment side of events.

In 2014, after realising there was a need for quality event entertainment and bringing together her knowledge of entertainment and events, she formed Blue Butterfly’s very own event dancers -The Butterflies; who she still manages, choreographs and performs with today.

In 2015, she joined the IDTA gaining her Associate Dance Teaching Qualification. It was at this time she decided to start two fun dance classes, mainly for her 3 daughters, who had inherited her love of dancing and so…… Blue Butterfly Dance Company was born.

Since starting Blue Butterfly Dance Company her main love has been teaching the Commercial classes. Starting with a small ButterflyJunior class, she has now developed dancers through to ButterflySeniors and ButterflyElites. All of Amy’s commercial classes are very popular with Commercial, Hip Hop, Street, Jazz Funk and Afro vibes! Amy’s creativity and own personal development in this area is something she is extremely proud of and admittedly, its very different from the 6yr old little tap dancer she started out to be. Now her students are performing regularly and competing too which makes her extremely proud.

In 2019, Amy finally achieved her goal of owning her own studio space and is now the proud owner and Managing Director of Blue Butterfly Studios. She plays a very active role teaching our Commercial, Pre -school, Cheer and Musical Theatre classes and is always the first point of contact for parents and students. She has a wealth of experience and training in Child Protection/Safeguarding undertaking the role of Safeguarding Officer at Blue Butterfly Studios.

Since opening the studio, Amy is now qualified in teaching Acro and is a qualified teacher  with the UK Cheerleading Association.

Her most important role is being Mummy to her 3 girls who are already in training to take the reins of the studio one day!

Grace Fern- Trainee Dance Teacher & Administrative Assistant

Grace Fern- Trainee Dance Teacher & Administrative Assistant

Grace was born into dance; joining her first tap and musical theatre classes at the age of 4! She then went onto joining ballet, contemporary and commercial classes later on in her childhood where her love of dance only grew!

Grace went on to study dance at A-Level where she primarily focused on jazz and contemporary styles and technique, exploring numerous choreographers such as Bob Fosse, Merce Cunningham, Robert North and Christopher Bruce. This is where Grace found her love for choreographing with the freedom and opportunity of being able to choreograph her own pieces and to watch them be performed in countless performances at college; this  allowed her to make her decisions for her next steps.

After being rewarded with a grade A in her A-level dance studies, Grace decided that she wanted to teach. Watching her mum teach growing up became her inspiration and wanting to share her love for dance became her motive.

Grace is currently studying for her teacher qualifications in Tap, Ballet and Freestyle and hopes to cover even more styles in the future!

In addition to this, she currently teaches tap classes on a Saturday morning while she assists regularly in other styles. She also works the admin side of the studio alongside her teaching; helping with enrolments, orders, emails and more!
