About Blue Butterfly Studios

The Blue Butterfly brand was formed by Amy Fern, the owner and Managing Director of Blue Butterfly Studios.

Initially founded as Blue Butterfly Event Management, its sole aim initially was to make a difference by organising entertainment and sporting events to help charities raise much needed funds. Amy had been fundraising for various charities for many years and whilst organising an event for Naomi House Children’s Hospice in 2005 before she formed Blue Butterfly, the charity told her that a terminally ill child was very much like a butterfly – fragile with a short lifespan. As an avid supporter of childhood charities, this was something which Amy could not forget and became the original idea behind the name of ‘Blue Butterfly’ when she decided to form her own Event Management Business in 2006.

Amy herself was not inexperienced in the entertainment industry; she had been a dancer and singer since the age of 6. Training with local stage schools in the Hampshire area, performing with theatre companies in London and in theatres and at events throughout the South. In 2005 she had also begun teaching dance and singing in local schools and realising there was a need for quality event entertainment at the events she was organising. She decided to merge both her love of events and dance and formed Blue Butterfly’s very own event dancers – The Butterflies in 2014. Which she still manages, choreographs and performs with today.

Woman smiling and unlocking a door

Blue Butterfly then grew in both the entertainment and event industry and in February 2015, Amy started 2 fun dance classes, mainly for her 3 daughters, who had inherited her love of dance and so… Blue Butterfly Dance Company was also born.

Amy’s ethos has always been to let the children have fun! A child learns better when they are in a fun and enjoyable environment. This ethos and the way in which the classes were relaxed and fun meant that the dance company quickly grew! And soon 2 classes turned into 26 classes in less than 2 years.

It was clear to see within a year of starting classes that studio space in the area was always hard to find and with Amy’s enthusiasm and motivation Blue Butterfly needed the capability to spread its wings further! We needed our own Dance Studio!

In 2017 Amy and her husband came across Unit 1, The Swan Centre in Eastleigh and after 2 years of planning the dream was starting to become reality! Thanks to Amy’s dedication, pen was put to paper in January 2019 and Blue Butterfly Studios was ready to be built.

Thanks to the hard work of her husband David, who owns Melwood Construction Ltd, Unit 1 Swan Centre was transformed in just 12 weeks to be the stunning space it is now! And we finally opened our doors to the community on 20th April 2019.

Blue Butterfly Studios is a space for everyone and there is a place for everyone when they walk through the doors. We are IDTA registered, offering classes working towards the IDTA syllabus.

We build confidence by giving our students performance opportunities in our Showtime performances and our FUN ethos will never change!

With our dynamic outlook and motivation we will always strive to make Blue Butterfly the best it can be! The studios are a place for everyone in our local community where they can discover what is possible…. And long may that continue.
